Wash. You should be washing the loose dirt and dried mud off of your boots every so often. Use a damp cloth to wipe them down; one of the most important points when figuring out how to clean cowboy boots is to never put them away with mud on them.

Wipe. One thing you should remember is that dust loves to creep onto your boots. Once it is there, it loves even more to settle into the creases and cause the leather to split. When it comes to how to clean cowboy boots, ensure that you will be able to wear your favorite pair from Sheplers for a long time by wiping off the dust every time you wear them.

Apply. While the leather is still damp, apply a boot conditioner until it lathers. After it has dried, buff it with a soft cloth, and then apply a boot cream; make sure the boot cream is a shade (or two) darker since leather fades as it ages.
