Keep Your Jeans from Fading with These Tips

Jeans tend to fade in the washing machine. The soap, water, agitation, and more can discolor them or simply cause them to erode the dye and fade away. However, carefully taking care of your jeans will give them a long-lasting life. Follow the tips below from Sheplers, your one stop shop for all western style clothes, to keep your jeans from fading.

  1. Wash your jeans infrequently. If you’re casually wearing your jeans, you can wash dark ones every 3-4 wears, which will allow them to last considerably longer. If you prefer to wash your jeans after every wear, here’s something to consider: the fabric used to create a pair of jeans is thicker than other types of clothing, and as humans, we tend to sweat less from the lower part of our bodies. If you don’t like the idea of washing your jeans after wearing them three times, you can wash them every other wear.
  2. Turn them inside out. When you do wash your jeans, turn them inside out so the dark fabric isn’t in direct contact with the soap and water. Jeans that are washed inside out will maintain their color better than jeans washed regularly.
  3. Wash your jeans in cold water. Hot water can not only fade your jeans, but can also wear the threads out far more quickly than cold water does.
  4. Hang your jeans outside. Your dryer can make your jeans shrink, and can also lead to unnecessary wear and tear. The fresh outside air makes a great dryer to keep your jeans from fading. However, make sure your jeans aren’t in direct sunlight, because then hanging them outside to dry to keep them from fading can damage just as much as your dryer may!
  5. Wash your jeans with other dark garments. Jeans tend to fade less when they’re washed with other dark clothing. Keep your darks with darks.

The five suggestions above are enough to begin maintaining your beloved pair of blue jeans. If you’ve just about outworn your favorite pair, visit Sheplers, where you can find western style clothes and a brand new pair of favorite jeans.
